We do offer Fiction and Nonfiction editing services in addition to our poetry work.

Fiction

Submit a work of fiction for full set of MFA style notes. What do I mean by MFA style notes? Throughout the piece I will point out issues with character, set and plot, questions about images and language style, basic proofreading, and some thoughts on theme and tone. Pretty much what you could expect if you brought the story to a workshop. You know, without all the extra grad school money, time, tears and alcohol (or was that just me?).

What I don’t do. I won’t rip apart your punctuation or hound you on tense- hopefully you’ve got some of that stuff down. Basically I want to take the work you’ve put into your characters and your world and help them stand out the way they deserve.

I break down our submissions into three categories, Five Pages, Ten Pages and Twenty Pages.

Nonfiction

What can you expect? With nonfiction I look for clarity in time, location, characters and events. I may ask a lot of questions about people and events. I might ask for more detail, or just the opposite, and suggest where to pull back.

Not sure if you’ve got nonfiction. If it is true, based on truth, or based on your best memory of an actual event, then it is probably nonfiction. I will read essay, memoir or research based pieces. If you ask nicely I may be game to go over college essays or your thesis.
