I typically don’t discuss books that aren’t poetry collections here, but we live in a different kind of world than when I started this website in 2011. From time to time I’m going to give a shout out to books that I think need to be read-be they children’s books, nonfiction, fiction, collections, or even textbooks. Some of my choices will have an obvious political slant, others will just be books that I think are fantastic. We currently live in a county that is divided between facts and feelings, between emotions and evidence. Us vs. Them. I want to try to be more informed, and I want my children to grow up well rounded and welcoming.
To that end my first recommendation is A Day in the Life of Marlon Bundo.
I have my copy on order since it is pretty much a sell out already-and that is a good thing. According to Amazon
With its message of tolerance and advocacy, this charming children’s book explores issues of same sex marriage and democracy. Sweet, funny, and beautifully illustrated, this book is dedicated to every bunny who has ever felt different.

You read that right, buying this book for your kids, a kid you know, or just because, is a donation to The Trevor Project and AIDS United. That alone is a good enough reason to buy a book.
