For a literary journal our title might seem bland. It came not from a desire to reach a certain audience or as an attempt to establish an attitude, but instead as a personal realization. Many other prototype websites had been created prior to launching straight forward, and the hang up on each was the title and the background layout. I was worrying too much about trying to find an edgy name (even though “edgy” poetry isn’t my game) that did not sound like a bad emo band name. Self-doubt and fear prevented this magazine from happening for six months. Simplicity and honesty have taken hold now as my core values, in life, in this website and in poetry.
Poetry that does not hide truth in gimmicks or convoluted metaphors is what we love. This does not limit you from sending in formal poetry, rhyming poetry, prose poems, or any other style, just make sure the beauty is in the words and images, not in the tricks.
